Cleveland fan expo 202211/23/2023 Q Considering you’ve been a working actor for seven decades, are there any regrets regarding roles or career decisions?Ī Oh, no regrets. Six years later, it was revived because of a variety of circumstances and it becomes popular. It goes off the air after three years, and that’s the end of it. It was moderately successful and each season was going to be canceled. “What do you mean this show is going to last 60 years? Are you crazy?” The show was semi-popular. Not only is it unimaginable, it was the equivalent of saying this wonderful interview you’re conducting in 60 years will be held up as an interview the way you interview an actor.Ī Well, yes, but you can only dream about it because it happened on “Star Trek.” Prior to “Star Trek,” nobody had that dream. Q Looking back to when you were shooting the original “Star Trek” series, did you have any inkling it would grow decades later to include a rabid fanbase?Ī No. There is a challenge of speaking in front of audiences there, but I get a sense of what people are after. So if I make a Freudian slip, I won’t be exposing myself as a child killer. I thought, well, the hell with it, I have a pure mind. I used to think about Freudian slips, and then I gave that up. If someone is going to get on a microphone and ask a question, then your answer is very transparent. It’s a challenge to get in front of several thousand people and not know what you’re going to say. One is to be able to get in front of an audience and talk extemporaneously. Why do you enjoy these fan-interaction events?Ī They offer a number of things. It’s the loyalty that Cleveland citizens have for their football team. You can say nothing else about Cleveland. Cleveland is a hard-working, wonderful city and renowned for its football team and the loyalty of the fans. Q What memories do you have of Cleveland over the years?Ī Oh, wonderful memories of rain and misery and snow. The News-Herald talked to Shatner about his legacy, his opinion of Cleveland and why he has no time for regrets.
